In Brazil, the inadequate distribution of income and food among the population, the chronic poverty we face and the low growth of the country's GDP are constantly being discussed. However, we are always looking only at the consequences and not at the causes. Looking for a way to help promote and disseminate a sustainable culture, thereby impacting the root of these problems, the Organization Cidades Sem Fome (Cities Without Hunger) outlined a strategy to tackle the causes.

 

By stimulating urban agriculture through the implementation and operation of vegetable gardens on the outskirts of cities, the Organization generates employment and income through the production of organic food, in order to reduce food insecurity among socially vulnerable people. These areas, previously deactivated and/or degraded, are then transformed into productive spaces and their quality, affordable produce, directly impact the farming partners and beneficiaries of these communities and the NGO's social programs.

• 33 community gardens and 51 school gardens;

• 456 jobs created and 15,506 students impacted;

• 1 Farmers market implemented and dozens of training  courses and workshops given;

• Revitalization of several urban areas.
